Run coding agents like processes.
Supervise them like jobs.
agtd turns coding agents into durable tasks with state, artifacts, and history. Run Claude Code, Codex or any TTY-based agent in parallel. Instead of babysitting terminal tabs, you supervise work.
macOS, Debian/Ubuntu and Arch. Installs agt and agtd to ~/.local/bin.
❯ agt ls RUN AGE NAME ACTIVITY CWD ATTENTION ⚠ 12m fix-tests blocked 2m ~/src/app permission: Run the tests? ● 40m dep-bump working 47% ~/src/app ● 3m docs idle 5m ~/src/docs Updated the README ○ 1h refactor exited ~/src/app finished (exit 0)
Sessions that need you come first, in agt ls, in the picker and in the switcher.
tmux multiplexes terminals. agtd supervises agents.
Developers are running several coding agents at once. Past the first one, things get messy. agtd runs each agent as a task inside a managed session: a working directory you choose, a dedicated PTY, retained terminal history and persistent artifacts.
Without a supervisor
- Terminals everywhere
- Scrolling logs
- Lost artifacts
- Agents waiting on you, unseen
What agtd manages that your terminal can't
Native terminal first
Ghostty, iTerm2, Kitty, WezTerm: keep the terminal you chose. Open a tab and runagt attach fix-tests. Native scrollback, native search, native copy/paste. For free.
Attention, not logs
Sessions report when they are working, blocked or done. Know when an agent needs you without watching it, and follow it with agt events --follow --notify.
Durable sessions
Agents keep running after you disconnect. Sessions survive the daemon restarting, crashing or being upgraded, with a live handoff to the new binary.
What a session produced
Commits, staged and unstaged edits and new files since the session started. Review withagt diff, download a patch for git am.
Your devbox, from your laptop
Reach sessions over QUIC on a LAN, Tailscale or WireGuard, with pinned keys and no hosted service. Close the laptop; the agent continues. In preview.
Vendor-neutral
Claude Code, Codex, or any TTY-based agent. Configure them in config.toml and pick one per task.
Install
On macOS, Debian/Ubuntu or Arch (Omarchy included).
The script installs agt and agtd side by side in ~/.local/bin. Run it again at any time to upgrade: a running daemon hands its sessions to the new binary without stopping them. It never turns on remote access.
❯ curl -fsSL https://agtd.sh/install.sh | bashOr run ./install.sh from a checkout, which builds that checkout. AGTD_PREFIXchanges the prefix.
Start your first task
Give it a name. agtd creates a session and starts your default agent in an attached PTY.
Detach with ctrl + \; the session keeps running. Switch to the previous or next session with ctrl + [ and ctrl + ].
