Quickstart

Install agtd, start an agent as a task, and supervise it without keeping its terminal open.

On macOS, Debian/Ubuntu or Arch (Omarchy included), run the install script:

shell
❯ curl -fsSL https://agtd.sh/install.sh | bash

It installs agt and agtd side by side in ~/.local/bin. Set AGTD_PREFIX to change the prefix. The script can be run again at any time:

  • Missing base packages come from apt or pacman. On macOS it asks for the Xcode command line tools.
  • Go and Zig are used from PATH when new enough; otherwise pinned releases are downloaded for the build only.
  • Binaries are only replaced when the build differs. A running daemon hands its sessions to the new binary without stopping them.
  • On Linux with systemd it installs a user unit, so the daemon starts at boot. AGTD_NO_SERVICE=1 skips this.

Remote access stays off

The installer never turns on remote access. See Enable on a devbox when you want it.

Give the task a name. agtd creates a session and starts your default agent in an attached PTY, in the current directory.

agt
❯ agt new fix-tests

Pass --cwd DIR to run it somewhere else. To keep two agents apart in one repository, create a git worktree yourself and point the session at it.

List every session. Sessions that need you come first.

agt
❯ agt ls

RUN AGE NAME ACTIVITY CWD ATTENTION
  ⚠ 4m dep-bump blocked 1m ~/src/app permission: Use Bash?
  ● 12m fix-tests working ~/src/app
  ○ 6m docs-readme exited ~/src/docs finished (exit 0)

Run agt with no arguments to open the TUI for a quick overview of all sessions.

Open a new tab in your own terminal and attach to the running session. Several clients can attach to one session at once.

agt
❯ agt attach fix-tests

Detach with ctrl + \. The screen is cleared and the session’s output stays in your terminal’s scrollback. Switch to the previous session with ctrl + [ and the next with ctrl + ].

Everything is measured from the commit the session started on: commits since, staged and unstaged edits, and new files.

agt
❯ agt diff fix-tests --stat
❯ agt status fix-tests
❯ agt artifact fix-tests patch -o fix-tests.mbox

agtd only reads the repository. It never writes to it, its index or its refs.

agt
❯ agt kill fix-tests
❯ agt rm fix-tests

agt rm removes the session and cleans up its artifacts.
